Gloria Yip's debut was in the very fun Yuen Biao film "The Peacock King" in 1989 but in 1994 she retired when she got married. Gloria now has two children, but she just recently divorced her husband and she is contemplating a return to the film industry.
Gloria Yip speaks Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese and English. Her roles in "Mark Six Comedy" and "Boxer's Story" include brief passages of English dialogue. She went to Japan and was discovered by a talent scout. Gloria Ye Yun Yi was only thirteen (though she claimed at the time to be fourteen), took a Japanese name, and appeared in television commercials like McDonald’s and TDK. Her career continued from there. In 1987, at age 14, she appeared in the play "The Real Man Sips The Vinegar". At age 19, Gloria Yip appeared in another play "The Water For Foot Washing"(1992).
