Carina Lau was born in Suzhou, China, and raised in Hong Kong. She made her acting debut in a TVB drama serial and was immediately invited to appear in films. She earned her first Best Actress nomination in Tony Au's  "I Am Sorry"(1989), and her first international prize (at the Festival des 3 Continents in Nantes, France) for Wong Kar Kai's "Days of Being Wild" (1990). Her role in Zhang Yibai's thriller "Curiosity Kills The Cat" (2006) won her top awards from both the industry and the audience in China.

On July 21, 2008 at the Luxurious Uma Paro hotel in Bhutan Carina Lau married long-time boyfriend Tony Leung Chiu Wai. The couple finally tied the knot after being together for 19 years.
